The companion recipe cookbook to Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin Royal Navy, age of sail series of books.  The mother & daughter team researched every dish mentioned in the series including Guano Soup.  Their book includes the historical & the modern equivalent recipe.  My wife gave me the book as a Christmas gift several years ago.  I have successfully prepared many of the recipes (ie. Boeuf à la mode, Lobscouse, Spotted Dog, Curried Mutton...)for both my lady and for the boat crew, to their gourmand satisfaction.
