Midshipmen: Respected Officers or Mere Children? Join Rory Tassonyi of HMS Psyche CMHS in an exploration of the origins, responsibilities, and lives of the Royal Navy’s adolescent officers from 1792 – 1815. We will discuss what Midshipmen ate, where they slept, how they were educated, and what their duties were. We will also explore the age distribution, socio-economic status, opportunities for advancement, and pay of the hundreds of Midshipmen in the Royal Navy.
